History

Aims

The main aim of History is to stimulate interest in and enthusiasm for the study of the past.

This involves the acquisition of knowledge and the use of study skills, research skills and presentation skills as well as the use of source materials.

We hope to provide a sound basis for further study and the pursuit of personal interest.

Year 7

All Year 7 pupils follow an exciting History course which takes them from 400 B.C. and the start of the Roman Empire, through the Medieval period and into Tudor Times.

This includes a study of some of the most interesting people in history such as William the Conqueror and Henry VIII and some exciting events such as the murder of Archbishop Becket and the ravages of the Black Death.

Pupils will learn History through reading our range of text books,examining a variety of sources of evidence, watching historical documentaries and films and using the internet as a research tool.

How can I help?

By taking an interest in your child's History work.
By making sure that your child has all the right equipment to take part in every History lesson.
By checking all their homework is done to the highest possible standards.
By checking your child's planner to ensure homework is set and completed.
By contacting the history teacher if you or your child are unhappy in any way.

History Club

We have a regular History club which is part of the School Plus programme.

This involves History detective work, making Histroy games and models as well as visits to local historical places of interest.

Homework

All pupils will be given regular homework - once a week for History.
Each homework should last about thirty minutes.
All pupils are issued with a homework book in which to complete their homework.
Homeworks are usually set pieces to be handed in on a set date. More time is given for longer assignments.
The homework is always given on the day that pupils have their History lesson.
If your child has difficulty with a piece of homework, please encourage them to seek help before the date it is due in. We are here to help!
