What Mathematics will your child do at Earlsheaton?

Pupils in Key Stage 3 will follow the National Numeracy Strategy using a variety of textbooks as a resource.

Pupils in Key Stage 4 are following the modular Edexcel specification which has complementary text books at Foundation and Higher GCSE level.

In every year group all aspects of Mathematics are taught - Number, Shape and Space, Algebra and Statistics.

Mathematics is taught in setted groups. Setting takes place as soon as possible in Year 7. Sets are determined by KS2 SATS results and by internal assessments.

Mathematics and the teaching of Mathematics has changed in recent years. There is much more emphasis on involving pupils in practical Mathematics.

Calculators and computers are frequently used within investigations and project work.

Learning Mathematics is no longer learning by rote. The emphasis is now on understanding.

All our books are linked to the Framework for Numeracy and the National Curriculum.
